Infographic on Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes (GDM) develops during pregnancy in some individuals. It happens when the pregnancy hormones cause insulin (the hormone that manages your blood sugar levels) less effective.

The good news is that GDM is manageable! Following a healthy lifestyle can help control blood sugar levels. When necessary, your doctor may also prescribe glucose-lowering medication.

If you are diagnosed with GDM, your doctor will likely refer you to a Registered Dietitian (RD) to help you get an individualized meal plan and teach you to monitor your blood glucose levels through diet.
